Social Days 2026 to Explore Peace, Mining Agreements and the Future of Democracy in the DRC

The pursuit of lasting peace, responsible natural resource governance and strong democratic institutions remains central to the future of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Against this backdrop, the Social Days 2026 will bring together leading voices from academia, civil society, faith communities and public institutions to reflect on some of the most pressing issues facing the country today.

Organized by the Centre d’Études pour l’Action Sociale (CEPAS) in partnership with the Loyola University of Congo (ULC), CADICEC, Ebuteli, and the Ecclesial Network of the Congo Basin (REBAC), the forum will take place from 23–25 June 2026 in Kinshasa under the theme:

“Peace, Mining Agreements with the USA and the Future of Democracy in the DRC.”

A Space for Reflection and Dialogue

At a time when the DRC continues to navigate complex security, political and economic realities, the Social Days 2026 seek to provide a platform for informed dialogue and collective reflection.

The forum will bring together researchers, academics, faith leaders, civil society organizations, policymakers and development practitioners to examine current developments and their implications for the country’s future.

Through panel discussions and expert exchanges, participants will explore pathways toward sustainable peace, accountable governance and inclusive development.

Key Themes of the Forum

Peace and Security in the DRC

The first day of discussions will focus on the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Participants will reflect on the current state of peace agreements, including developments linked to the Washington and Doha processes, while examining opportunities and challenges for achieving lasting peace in conflict-affected regions.

The discussions will also provide an opportunity to assess ongoing efforts aimed at restoring security and stability for communities affected by conflict.

Economic Partnerships and Resource Governance

The second day will examine the strategic partnership between the DRC and the United States, with particular attention to mining agreements, natural resource governance and economic sovereignty.

Participants will explore the implications of these partnerships for national development, fiscal policy and the well-being of Congolese citizens, while reflecting on how the country’s natural resources can contribute to sustainable and inclusive growth.

Democracy and Institutional Stability

The final day will focus on the future of democratic governance in the DRC.

Discussions will address constitutional debates, institutional stability and preparations for future electoral processes. Participants will examine how democratic institutions can be strengthened to support peace, accountability and national cohesion.
